“ We chose this place for our last meal in Phoenix visiting from NYC and, I’m so happy we did! Food was excellent, service was impeccable, prices are great. Friendly staff. They kept getting busier as the night progressed and they didn’t miss a beat. Very good portions - and the restaurant is beautiful. Honestly, if I’m ever in Phoenix again, this is a must stop. “ I was a complete idiota and didn’t take a picture of the gorgeous ceviche that they served me. To be fair, I was on a first date, and although I warned her of my obsession with Google maps, I didn’t want to take too many pictures and completely scare her off. El Chullo was the perfect culmination to our evening, featuring bright colors, brilliant food, and a beaming staff. For those not in the know, Peruvian food utilizes soy sauce (not in every dish, of course) because of the influence of Japanese immigrants. Who knew?? ”

“ This cafe-style restaurant is a festive place to spend an evening with friends, either inside in the colorful dining room or outside on the patio. Assuming the monster on the outside wall doesn’t scare you away (the llama keeps him at bay), you will find food inside as good or better than we found in Lima. The portions are generous and tasty and the service is good. We ordered a second helping of the plantains, which I suggest accompanying with the house yellow sauce, which I think is Aji Amarillo-based. At first I thought some of the dishes had too many fries, then I remembered that without Peru the Earth would not have one of the foods that makes it the best planet in the Universe: the potato. So bring ‘em on. Being red wine drinkers, we were happy to see several reasonably priced bottles. If it’s a special occasion, be sure to tell them, else you’ll miss being regaled by the Inca who haunts this place. We’ll be back, especially with friends, ”
“ I stopped by El Chullo for the first time to try Peruvian seafood, and I’m so glad I did. I started off with a chicha morada drink. This is a traditional Peruvian drink made from purple corn and while I was a little nervous trying something new, it ended up being absolutely delicious. For lunch, I ordered the ceviche mixto, and WOW! I was blown away. The dish had shrimp, octopus, fish, and clams, all soaked in the perfect leche de tigre. It was fresh, flavorful, and had just the right amount of kick. I legit cleared the plate. Trying a new type of cuisine can be a little intimidating at first, but this experience was nothing short of amazing. If you’ve never had Peruvian food before, or you’re looking to switch things up and try something different, I highly recommend El Chullo.
